I think guil leaders should not earn any commission at all.
Rather:
1. There should be a Guild treasury.
2. The treasury gets 5% of all the sales made by NPCs at a Guild Hall.
3. Sales occur when members SELL (not BUY) items or services at a guild hall.
4. The guild leader or officers CANNOT use the money collected by treasury for personal use.
5. The money can only be used to buy additional NPCs or more guild halls, or used for party items.
6. Party items will benefit everyone present at a guild hall.
7. Only the guild leader can determine when and how the money is spent.

Something more simple. A treasury that gets 5% of the sales at NPC's, such as the crappy whites you sell to your merchant, he makes profit. Guild leaders and officers (don't put people you don't trust as an officer, duh.) can spend the money on guild related things. If all NPC's are bought, for example, it just tends to build up. Until the guild leader decides to buy a new guild hall or cape. It'd be great to have people moan and go "I want the three million gold our treasury has."
I'd buy thousands of capes. For the hell of it.

Jealousy? I'm a guild leader. Have been for about three years. There is NO way I would except this. I GIVE stuff away to any guild or alliance member that needs it. How is there any jealousy in that?
Also, your OP suggests 50 to 25% cut. Now, because of negative responses, you are reducing it to 10%?
Our guild got all the NPC's because we (all the guild members) wanted to. We all chipped in. The hall belongs to the members, not me. For that matter the guild belongs to all the members. It is not MY guild.
I think you are a very selfish, greedy person that needs to rethink the concept of playing games with friends.

No way. If you don't care about the guild enough to pay for those, then it should show.
Edit.
Ugh, I looked at the month of the tread, but not the year.
Eff.

Initial costs:
100g: Guild Creation
100g: Invite account B
100k: Rare material trader
10k: Celestial Sigil
Total setup cost: 110,200g
Buy price per ecto: 4.5k
Sell price per ecto: 3.6k
25% of each purchase goes to guild leader (account A) - 1,125g/ecto
Slow person: 2 seconds per ecto to buy, 15 seconds to trade money.
Account B buys 1 ecto every 2 seconds - takes ~45 seconds to spend 100k. (22 ecto/100k)
Account A has received 24.75k during these 45 seconds.
Account A trades money to account B for next set of purchases - 15 seconds
Account B sells 1 ecto every 2 seconds - takes ~45 seconds to make 79.2k
Rinse and repeat.
This takes 1 minute, 45 seconds (105sec) for 3.95k profit.
Per hour (3,600 sec) this means ~34 (3,600/105) x 3.95k = ~134.3k
Regular person: 1.5 seconds per ecto to buy, 10 seconds to trade money.
Account B buys 1 ecto every 1.5 seconds - takes ~33 seconds to spend 100k. (22 ecto/100k)
Account A has received 24.75k during these 33 seconds.
Account A trades money to account B for next set of purchases - 10 seconds
Account B sells 1 ecto every 2 seconds - takes ~33 seconds to make 79.2k
Rinse and repeat.
This takes 1 minute, 16 seconds (76sec) for 3.95k profit.
Per hour (3,600 sec) this means ~47 (3,600/76) x 3.95k = ~185.6k
Fast person: 1 second per ecto to buy, 5 seconds to trade money.
Account B buys 1 ecto every second - takes 22 seconds to spend 100k. (22 ecto/100k)
Account A has received 24.75k during these 22 seconds.
Account A trades money to account B for next set of purchases - 5 seconds
Account B sells 1 ecto every second - takes 22 seconds to make 79.2k
Rinse and repeat.
This takes 49 seconds for 3.95k profit.
Per hour (3,600 sec) this means ~73 (3,600/49) x 3.95k = ~288.3k
No more farming. Sign me up.

Nah, because then the Communist Trader (TM) runs out of ecto. Figure that everybody smart runs the math and starts doing this.
So what happens is like the day that the traders got reset back in '05: trader runs out and there are lines of people waiting to collect the free money from each transaction. Basically, every guild hall looks like a Leningrad bread line for a week.
Eventually, ecto hits a point where the spread is 25% or greater and we get a new price floor for ecto. (I think there's one that's 11k sell/8k buy. I KNOW there's a 5500/3800 one, but it seems to be fragile.)

This idea is terribad and the thread should be closed.
There are FAR better things that could be done to improve the guilds and guildhalls but this thread doesn't deserve to have them posted in it.

NOOOOO.
The economic reasons have already been explained, but also because it would reduce outpost population since people would always go to guild halls instead of anywhere else to use merchants.

As a guild leader, I can safely say that (after a year's worth of careful consideration) there have been many dumb suggestions, but very few have been as bad as this one.

If anything it should be the person who bought the NPC that gets a small cut of the money
but tbh its a bad idea all around.

Sounds kind of like taxes and no one likes taxes.....
Besides players would likely avoid using there-said merchants if they knew where their money was going

87.3% of guild hall NPCs are bought by someone other than the guild leader.
58.2% of guild hall NPCs are bought by someone who is no longer in the guild anymore.
Only 0.42% of guild leaders buy all the guild hall NPCs.
So tell me why should guild leaders be the ones that get commission?
P.S. 63.5% of statistics is made up on the spot, but you get the point.
